Dr. Penny Turtel graduated Barnard College Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude. She received her MD from Cornell University Medical College, earning honors in all clinical rotations. She completed her Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine as well as Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. During her Residency and Fellowship, she also did special training in Clinical Nutrition at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Dr Turtel’s practice is limited to the fields of Gastroenterology and Liver Disease. Her special interests include Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Celiac Disease, Malabsorption, Liver Diseases, Reflux and Digestive Cancer Screening. Colonoscopy and Upper Endoscopy are important parts of her practice.
Dr Turtel is a member of the Medical Education Committee of the NJ Chapter of Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. She has participated in community education panels, and has lectured on various topics in gastroenterology.
She is a Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. She has been listed for over 10 years as a Top Doctor by Castle Connolly in both NJ and in the New York Metro guides and has been included in the “Best Doctors in America” and “Guide to America’s Top Gastroenterologists” databases.
Dr. Turtel is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and member of the American Gastroenterological Association and American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
